ORPHAN & IMO INDIGENE KWARA CORPS MEMBER, FACILITATES CONSTRUCTION OF 10-ROOM "CORPERS" LODGE IN SHAO COMMUNITY

Simon Chiwendu Purity, an orphan, Indigene of Ideator North Local Government Area in Imo State, serving in Bartholomew College of Health, Shao, in Moro Local Government Area, of Kwara State, has facilitated the construction of a 10-room "Corpers" Lodge in Shao Community, remedying accommodation challenge encountered in the community by newly posted corps members.

The project, a 10-room self-contain, equipped with a solar-powered borehole, was sponsored by Oladunni Aid Foundation, drew a good number of people from the community including the traditional ruler, His Royal Highness, Dr Obalowu Job Atolagbe, the Ohoro of Shao, Ayanwole the IV and other religious leaders of the community.

Speaking during the commissioning of the project, State Coordinator NYSC Kwara, Mr Musa Kafarda, appreciated the intent of the Corps Member for initiating the laudable programme, stressing the role of young people in proferring solutions to the challenges of their host communities. He emphasized that the NYSC will continue to ensure that its young people contribute to national development.

Also speaking at the programme, the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Dr Obalowu Job Atolagbe, the Ohoro of Shao, Ayanwole the IV, acknowledged the efforts of the Corps Member, underlining her tribe which is across the Niger, in Imo State, but have deposited her humanity, service in Shao Community, he appreciated the NYSC for the deployment of Corps Members who have continued to bring developments to the community, referencing Corps Member Samyaaloh Lekia, KW/23B/2602, who built a computer center with computers in 2023. He requested the NYSC facilitate central projects in the State to push the community to limelight.

The sponsor of the Programme, Oladunni Aid Foundation, represented by Mr Sola Omotosho Oladunni, said the Foundation is committed to the development of the community and would continue to support causes that would aid such. He mentioned the enthusiasm of the Corps Member which piqued the foundation's interest, and urged other Corps Members to emulate such.

Meanwhile, earlier, while delivering his address, Mr Musa Kafarda, said the NYSC has done but little in the project and as such would equip the building with 10 beds and 20 mattresses. He also used the opportunity to appreciate the sponsor, by presenting an official letter in that respect and an invitation to the 2026 batch "B" Stream II Orientation Course, to inspire Corps Members, in order to initiate humanitarian projects in their host communities during their service year.

As the initiator of the project, Purity Chiwendu Simon is a graduate of Environmental Health Technology, an orphan who lost her father at the age of eighteen, and her mother during her final year in school.
